Garden Walk

These are a few pictures from the Garden Walk last weekend. It was a fun time while it lasted. We had about 100 visitors. Unfortunately it began to rain about noon and we decided we needed to cancel about 1:30. I had problems with fabric bleeding in several of my quilts. I think they way it rained contributed to the bleeding. 3 are okay. One, I think, is beyond redemption. it will become part of the history of that quilt.

Éstos son pocos fotos del Paseo por las Jardines el fin de semana pasado. Fue muy divertida hasta que nececitamos cancelar por lluvia. Empezó a llover al mediodía y lo cancelamos a las 1:30. Tenía algunos problemas con colores de la tela corriendo. Creyo que la manera de la lluvia contribuía al problema. 3 son okay. Uno, creyo que no puedo reclamar. Ni modo. Sería parte de la historia de la colcha.

 

Quilt for Baby Lie

This is the quilt I made for the new baby. It was a real rush job since shower was Saturday and the other quilt I am working on isn't done. The invitation requested books instead of cards so I sent a collection of classic Golden Books including the Pokey Puppy. The quilt has pages from the book as well as several companion fabrics and a few others just because. It was long arm quilted by a friend with a cloud design and has green minkee on the back. It was a fun, fast quilt to  make.

Éste es la colcha hago para el nieto/a. Tenía que hacerla con mucha prisa porque la fiesta para el bebe fue el sabado pasaso y la otra colcha que estoy haciendo no está listo. En la invitación fue una pedido para libros en vez de tarjetas. Enví una colección de libros de mi ninez incluyendo la cuenta "El Cachorro Muy Lento."  La colcha tiene páginas del libro y otras telas. Una amiga la acolchaba en su machina grande como el de Gaby. El diseño es de nubes. Hay una tele especial que se llama minkee en el otro lado. Es una colcha muy divertida y rapida.

Traffic Boxs - Quilts as Public Art

 The Missoula Electric Quilters that I belong to won commissions to install our quilt designs on 2 of 6 traffic boxes that were decorated this Memorial Day weekend. We originally got involved in this project as a way for the group to expand our knowledge and use of the Electric Quilt software program. Our two submissions were the top 2 ranked projects of this round.

Besides the fun of creating as a group and the deepened friendships we learned more about designing with Electric Quilt, city government, and vinyl application.

Our designs are digital designs applied in vinyl to the traffic boxes. The hexagon box is titled "Missoula Quilted" and represents 4 of the mountains around Missoula including the iconic peace sign on Waterworks Hill, Lewis and Clark at Lolo Peak, the "M" for Montana State University and the "L" for Loyola High School.

 Our second traffic box is called "Missoula Heritage." The circular design is a compass to represent the early explorers including Lewis and Clark. On one of the side panels we again represent the"M" in the classic moon over the mountain quilt block. The pine trees bring to mind the forrests around Missoula and the long time forrest service industry so important to our area. The second large side of this box is a lone star variation. Lone star quilts are traditional native American gifts. On the top to be seen only by truckers and bus riders is a garden block since Missoula is often called the "Garden City"

I will get better pictures when the caution tape comes down later this week but I couldn't wait to share. We have been pretty excited about this project and mighty proud.

El grupo de Missoula Electric Quilters que yo assisto ganó comisiónes para instalar nuestro diseños en 2 de 6 cajas de tráfico que fueron adornado éste primavera. Ahora Missoula tiene 28 cajas decoradas. Originalmente empezamos en éste proyecto para aprender más del programa de Electric Quilt. Además de la diversión de crear en grupo nuestros amistades se hacen más profundo y aprendimos mejor el programa de EQ, el gobierno de la ciudad y la aplicación de vinilo.

Nuestros diseños digitales son aplicado en vinilo a las cajas de tráfico. El diseño de hexágonos se llama ''Missoula Quilted" y representa 4 de las montañas alrededor de aquí. La caja segunda se llama "Patrimonio de Missoula." Hay una estrella que es un diseño tradicional de las indigenas, un compás que representa las exploraciones, bosques que representa la industria de las arboles y animales de aqui como wapiti y osos. Encima de este caja es un deseno de jardines porque muchas veces Missoula se llama ciudad de jardines.

Voy a tomar fotos mejores en 2-3 días cuando representantes de la ciudad quiten las cintas de advertencias. No puedo esperar por ese. Estamos muy emocionante con mucho orgullo de ese proyesto. Ahorita la ciudad tiene colchas en lugares publicos.

Wind & Whorls - Viento y Espirales

Finally the quilt is finished! This was a fun one to make even though I don't enjoy machine quilting. The inspiration was a picture of a wind farm given to me for a challenge. I added the doilies as an answer to another challenge. Toralf wanted it for his office but it is not quite the right size for the location he had in mind.

Now I need to write instructions for a class for my dear friends in Mexico. Sorry I am so slow:(

Finalmente la colcha es terminada. Éste colcha fue divertida para hacer aunque no me gusta quilting por máquina. La inspiración fue una foto de un granja de viento. Anadé los pañitos como solución a una otra meta. Toralf quiere la colcha para su oficina pero no es el temaño correcto para el lugar.

Ahora tengo que escribir instrucciónes para una clase para mis queridas amigas en México. Lo siento que esté tan lenta :(

Playing in the Studio - Jugando en mi estudio

 I won a book at the Quilters Fun Nite at the AQS Quilt show in Lancaster. It is called Vivacious Curvy Quilts, by Diane Hire. I really didn't think too much about it but when I had my finger procedure I couldn't do much for a couple of days so I got caught up on reading including this book. The ideas started percolating and Firday I was able to go to my studio and start sewing. The following is the result. This isn't the finished piece but I'm keeping mum on the rest until later.

It has been really fun to play in my studio just because I want to rather than have to. This is before the sashing strips were sew on and is the correct orientation.

 Now I am ready to sew blocks together. This is upside down. What does it make you think of?

Gané un libro a la Noche Divertida para Quilters a La Exposición de Colchas en Lancaster. Se llama "Vivacious Curvy Quilts, by Diane Hire. No pensaba mucho en ésto pero la semana pasada cuando tuve una procedmiento en uno de mis dedos no podía hacer nada por un par de días. Leía mucho incluyendo éste libro. Los ideas empieza y viernes iniciaba coser. Éste es el resulto. No está terminada pero la proxima parte todavía es un secreto.

Mira el internet para más información sobre éste libro. Los colores de Diane son mucho más vivido. Creyo que éste técnica puede estar una classe por Skype. Que piensas? 

Trip to Lancaster, PA

 3 friends and I just returned from attending the AQS quilt show in Lancaster, PA. This is my friend Sue with her quilt "The Red Vase" that she entered in the show. Quilts were spectacular with exquisite quilting. Seems like almost all the wall quilts and many of the bed quilts were heavily beaded as well including Sue's wall quilt. 

The red purple quilt was part of a special exhibit of Amish quilts owned by the Esprit Corporation and donated to and displayed at the Lancaster Quilt Museum. The original red purple quilt that was the inspiration for the DBQ red purple "Our Amish Adventure" challenge way back in 1986???

3 amigas y yo acabamos de regresar de asistiendo la Concuso de Colchas de AQS en Lancaster, PA. Éste es mi amiga Sue con su colcha "El Florero Rojo" que fue una entrada en el concurso. Las colchas eran espectacular con quilting exquisito. Parecía casi todo las colchas para suspender y las de la cama tenían muchas gotas también incluyendo la colcha de Sue.

La colcha de roja y morada era parte de una expositión especial de colchas de los Amish que eran parte de la colección de corporación Esprit. Éstas colchas estaban exibido al Museo Lancaster de Colchas y Textiles.

La colcha original roja y morada que fue la inspiració para el roja morada meta del grupo DBQ "Nuestra Adventura de Amish" en 1986??? Recuerdas mi colcha "Jardin de Amish" que tiene un borde de uvas aplicadas?

AMISH COUNTRY

 





We spent several afternoons touring Amish country. It was quite a challenge to photograph the fast moving wagons and horses. Enjoyed visiting the Amish shops selling fabric and quilts often mixed with groceries, bulk food, hats etc.

Pasamos varios tardes recorriendo el campo del Amish. Fue una meta para sacar una foto de los carritos y cabellos. Disfrutamos visitas en las tienditas del Amish que venden telas y colchas y muchas veces abarrotes, sombreros, ropa etc.

GETTYSBURG NATIONAL MILITARY PARK

Our next stop was Gettysburg National Military Park, the site of the 3 day battle of Gettysburg as well as the military cemetary and site of Lincoln's Gettysburg address. We found it a very moving experience, hard to comprehend the numbers of soldiers who were killed or wounded there from both sides. There was a hush to the whole park, sacred ground.

El proximo destino fue Parque Nacional Militar, el lugar de batalla de 3 días en Gettysburg y también el cementario militar y sitio del Discurso de Gettysburg, undiscurso muy famoso en los EEUU. Fue un experiencia muy emocionante para nosotros. Es dificil comprendar los numeros de muertos y heridos. En todo el parque experimentamos un silencio profundo. Es un lugar sagrado.



WINTERTHUR MUSEUM

Last stop was Winterthur Museum former home of one of the Duponts and his extensive collection of American antiques, including many textiles and his wonderful gardens. We Montanas were starved for spring and he delivered so wonderfully. Couldn't believe the size of the daffodils! 

Nuestra última visita fue El Museo Winterthur antiguo casa de uno de los Duponts y su colección de antigüedades de America, incluyendo muchas textiles y sus jardines maravillosos. Llegando de Montana todaví nos falta la primavera y aquí estaban jardines y flores en profusion. No podemos creer el temaño de los narcisos!
