Remembering Mom - Un Recuerdo de mi Madre

Today is the one year anniversary of Mom's death. She had a stroke the afternoon of the 22nd and died during the night. It is one of those days that I remember vividly and I'm grateful I had the opportunity to talk to her briefly that morning. Hard to believe it has been one year, especially when I think of all the things that have happened in the intervening year. Mom never quilted but she did cross stitch. This is the last cross stitch Mom made for me. Unfortunately she didn't sign or date it like she usually does but it was probably 2008.

It has been a year of loss and remembrance and healing for me and today I have my home filled with flowers and friends. The Woolie group is coming this evening for their monthly meeting and that has been nice to look foreward to. The only thing lacking are my good friends from Mexico who gave me so much support at the time of Mom's death and throughout our time in Mexico.

Hoy es el aniversario de la muerte de mi madre. Ella tenía un ataque de apoplejía el 22 de Febrero por la tarde y murio durante la noche. Es uno de los días que yo recuerdo vívidamente. Estoy muy agradecido que tenía la oportunidad to hablar por teléfono con ella ese manaña. Es dificil creer que un año ha pasado especialmente cuando pienso en todos las cosas que ocurría durante ese año. Mi madre nunca hace colchas pero borda. Éste es la ultima bordado que mi madre hacía para mí. Desafortunadamente no tiene una firma ni un fecha. Creyo que está de 2008.

Éste año ha estado un año de pérdidas, recuerdos y curación para mí y hoy tengo mi casa lleno de flores y amigas. El grupo de amigas que cose con lana va a venir esta noche. La unico cosa que me falta ésta noche es mi buenas amigos de México que me dan tan apoyo cuando mi madre murió y durante todo de nuestro tiempo en México.

We named   
the fish Wanda. Both of these sculptures are by a local Missoula artist. I'd tell you his name but it is buried under the snow. We shoveled 5 more inches this morning.

El pez se llama Wanda. Las dos esculturas son de la misma artista de Missoula. No puedo decirles como se llama porque está de bajo de la nieve. Movamos 5 pulgadas más éste mañana.

Snow and More Snow

We got snow and more snow and I don't even have bragging rights. Take a look at my friend's blog. She is in Iowa  joquilterblog.blogspot.com. Here our snow melts and then we get fresh snow and then more melting making everything an icy and rather treacherous mess most mornings.

I was amused this morning. My neighbor and I were laughing over our snow shovels as we both spent an hour or so shoveling out so we could go to the gym to exercise!

Second laugh of the morning : One of my other neighbors, a young man, was out shoveling snow in shorts and a short sleeved t-shirt. Wish I had had my camera with me as I drove by.

My meeting tonight got cancelled so I get to stay home the rest of the day, quilt and probably shovel some more. Oh to be back in Mexico!

Recibimos nieve y más nieve éste manaña y no puedo alardear. Mira el blog de mi amiga en Iowa joquilter.blogspot.com. Aquí el nieve no acumular. Derrete y despues recibimos más nieve. Por las mañanas todo está muy resbaloso y peligroso.

Esté mañana me diviertió mucho el nieve. Mi vecina y yo estábamos moviendo el nieve con palas por una hora y más para ir al gimnasio para ejercer!

Segundo chiste de la manaña: Un otro vecino fue moviendo el nieve con una maquina. El llevaba pantalones cortes con playera con mangas cortas. Deseaba que tenía mi camera en éste momento.

Mi reunión éste noche fue cancelada. Por eso puedo quedar en casa, coser en mis colchas y probablemente mover más nieve. Todo con sueños de México!

Are we crazy? Estamos locos?

Yesterday we had a mini blizzard here with snow and wind all day. It was pretty to watch but not so fun to shovel. Because of the direction of the wind we had 8-10 inches of snow in the driveway while the neighbors across the street only had about 3-5". Still crazy folks that we are we cooked our dinner outside! Here is the chef manning the grill.

Ayer teníamos una tormentita de nieve con nieve y viento todo el día. Para verla fue muy bonita pero no fue divertida mover la nieve con pala. Porque de la dirección del viento tenemos 8-10 pulgadas en el camino de entrada mientras nuestros vecinos detras de la calle solamente tenían 3-5 pulgadas. Todavía loca gente que estamos cocinamos nuestra cena afuera! Aquí es el chef a la parrilla .

Chief Joseph Pass

Saturday we went cross country skiing at Chief Joseph Pass about 2 hours south of Missoula. I should have taken pictures of Missoula when we left. The ground was bare and it was raining. Obviously there was lots of snow at the pass though no fresh snow. Apparently a moose and her calf have taken over a few of the more remote trails here. Even they are finding the snow too deep to walk in. We didn't ski in that area. It was a more difficult trail and moose have a reputation for not being nice. It was a beautiful day to be out skiing.

El sábado fuimos al Paso de Chief Joseph  a esquiar. Éste está casi 2 horas al sur de Missoula. Debía haber tomado fotos de Missoula antes de salimos. El terreno estaba sin nieve y llovía. Obviamente fue mucha nieve al paso aunque no fue nada fresca. Aparentamente hay un alce y su babe en algunos de los senderos más recónditos. Hasta éstos encuentran el nieve demasiado alta para andar. No esquiamos en ese area. El sendero fue más dificil y alce tiene una reputación mal. Fue un día muy agradable para esquiar.

Work in Progress -- Tzintzuntsan

I was a bit discouraged yesterday after seeing physical therapist and hand doctor. My hand is more swollen and stiff than it has been . Don't know if I have been doing too much or it is our crazy weather. We seem to be on a snow, cold, rain cycle. Right now we're in the rain part.

Came home and went to work in my new studio and chased the blues away with thoughts of Mexico. If I remember correctly I bought the center embroidery in Tzintzuntzan so that is what I am calling this piece for now. I wanted to add something to truly make it mine so found a Mexican design I thought would work as an applique (lower right corner). This border will go all the way around. Don't know if I will add more borders or end it there. This much, about 12-14 inches took me most of the day today. I think the needle turn applique is going fairly well. Of course, while I sat stitching I was designing another quilt in my mind. I've got a lot of hand work to do right now. No pun intended but it is true -- a lot of hand applique and continued work getting my fingers stretched back out.

Tonight Toralf and I start Spanish classes again. Teacher is from Spain but we won't hold that against her:)

Fue una poquita desalentada ayer despues de visitar con mi terapuenta fisica y doctor de mano. Mi mano está más hinchado y entumecido de normal. No se si hago demasiado con este mano o si está el tiempo loco. recientemente nieva, hace frí o llueve. Ahorita llueve.

Despues de mi cita regresé a mi casa y empezaba de trabajar en mi nueva estudio. Tuve ganas de estar en buen humor pensando de México. Si recuerdo correctamente compré el centro bordado en Tzintzuntzan. Entonces éste es el nombre que voy a llamarla por ahora. Quiería añadar algo para hacerla mía. Así encontré
un diseño que puedo usar como aplique (rincón de abajo derecha). Éste borde va alrededor de toda la colcha. No se si voy a añadir mas bordes o no. Por casi todo el día hoy cosí estos 12-14 pulgadas. Creo que la tecnica de "needle turn applique" va bien por ésto. ¡Por supuesto mientras cosía pensaba de más diseños para más colchas! Tengo muchas que hacer a mano ahora con mis colchas y con mi mano también.

Ésta noche Toralf y yo empezamos clases de español otra vez. La maestra es de España pero está bien.

My "New" Studio

At long last you can see my "new" studio. It still needs a little more fine tuning and picking up but this is probably about as good a picture as I will get. I promised myself I wouldn't start any projects until everything was perfectly clear but yesterday as I was tackling a pile on my counter top I ended up getting out fabric and designing and cutting and before I knew it it was getting messy. I had to do a little putting away this morning to be able to take these pictures. Note the nice new carpet on the floor. I love the burgundy color but it does show every little thread.

I'm going to spend both Saturday and Sunday sewing with two different groups of friends so I need to get out some projects and decide what to take where. It is a snowy/rainy grey day here today. I'm thinking about projects with bright warm Mexican colors and themes. This is going to be my year to make quilts with Mexico themes and remember great friends and adventures.

Finalmente puedes ver mi "nuevo" estudio. Todavía necesito ponerlo en orden más pero éste probablemente está tan bueno como estaré. Me hice una promesa que yo no empezaría ningun proyecto hasta que todo esté perfecto pero ayer cuando trate de organizar una montón de cosas empece deseñar y cortar tela. Antes de realizarlo tenía desorden. Tuve que arreglarlo unpoquito otra vez éste mañana. Note bien mi nueva alfombra. Me gusta el color de vino roja pero demonstra todos los hilos que cayen allí.

Voy a passar Sabado y Domingo cosiendo con dos grupos de amigas. Necesito decidir lo que quiero hacer, que proyectos. Hoy hace frio y gris con nieve y lluvia. Estoy pensando de proyectos con colores y temas allegro y caliente de México. Éste año va a ser mi año de coser colchas de México, recuerdos de amigos y adventuras muy agradables.
